renewable energy production

How the energy systems are changing

Predictions point to an estimated growth in solar and wind renewables of around 20 percent per year in the years to come. Even if we can appreciate seeing an increase in renewable energy production, it introduces some potential challenges. Luckily, there are solutions in place to solve some of the major challenges the green shift brings.

From carbon-based to renewable energy

Energy systems have been in transition mode for a while, and with renewable energy taking over the driver’s seat, we need to approach energy production differently. Renewable energy production is based on natural resources such as wind, sun and water. Knowing that we cannot manipulate the weather, we have to surrender to the arbitrary rhythm of nature for the start and stop of energy production. This lack of control brings some challenges to the table.

As an example, in periods where the production is higher than the consumption, there’s a risk of losing production. This can be avoided if suitable storage systems are in place.

Finding the ideal battery storage system

A flexible storage system adapted to the unpredictability of renewable energy production is key, not just to meet the needs of the present day situation, but also for the requirements of future energy systems and smart grid operations.

An ideal battery storage solution will have to meet an extensive list of demands. It should coordinate immediate decisions regarding the timing of charging or discharging stored energy in compliance with grid codes, adapt energy production levels to commercial agreements, as well as the transmission operator requests.  Another aspect of this is to manage and optimize the longer timescale energy flow based on energy storage capacity, commercial aspects, energy market predictions and weather forecasts.

How BESS can make the grid a smart grid

A BESS, Battery Energy Storage System, stores power from renewable sources.

It can be programmed to release power when electricity is needed. Whether the production is higher than the consumption, or production is not optimal exactly when demand is high, the BESS makes sure power can be stored or released in an optimal manner.

In this article we answer the question of why battery energy storage solutions are an important part of the future smart grid

In the private market, the demand for solar cellar panels has exploded, and there are no numbers indicating that it won’t continue. Smart battery storage systems are also available to private consumers, providing the opportunity to safely turn one’s home into a power plant.

The success of sustainable renewable energy production relies on BESS

No one thought the transition from carbon-based energy systems to renewable energy would be a walk in the park. No matter the scale of production in an energy system, there is a need for smart storage options. As a bonus, ECO STOR’s BESS consists of second-life EV batteries, adding an additional layer of sustainability to the products.

Battery Energy Storage Systems is one of the key solutions that will ease the transition from carbon-based to renewable energy systems, and keep a steady course towards a more sustainable, profitable and consumer-friendly future.
